In his book, The Confessions of a Hoaxer, Alan Abel likens what he does to "a life game, an adventure in absurdity, an adult fairytale in which he engages people emotionally and intellectually. The audience gets involved and has to decide for itself what's going on and what's to be learned from the experience. Everybody is a participant."
After 50 years of 'professional' pranking, Alan continues to poke fun at the media's complicity, its fallibility and the all-too-often blind rush to scoop a salacious story. As Jenny indicated in an interview with NPR's ON THE MEDIA, Alan is an activist in his own weird way. His pranks not only provide a rich commentary on the media, but the majority of his elaborate stunts shed necessary light on various socio-political issues in a satirical manner. Alan's pranks ultimately raise questions as to how the fake reporting of real news and the real reporting of fake news might threaten to take over in the battle to dominate the airwaves.
Please help spread the word about Alan and his work. ABEL RAISES CAIN was a labor of love, ten years in the making, and we are tirelessly promoting it in order to make sure that the film gets seen by as wide an audience as possible...but we need YOUR help since we're self-distributing and there's only a few of us on this team!

We have been given a unique opportunity to raise funds through OurStage.com, a fan-driven independent film & music site. From now until the end of October 2008, we will receive $4 dollars for EVERY person who signs up for an account. $4 dollars may not seem like much, but exponentially, it really adds up!
**(IMPORTANT: going directly to the OurStage.com site and signing up will NOT earn us credits - it has to be through clicking the link above)This isn't about ending world hunger or saving the baby seals, but it IS about helping out 2 struggling independent filmmakers who want to keep making films! THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
